Diamond Teachers Group - Tutoring FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)
General Questions
How is Diamond Teachers Group different from Kumon?
While both Diamond Teachers Group and Kumon support student learning, there are key differences:
Personalized 1:1 Tutoring vs. Preset Worksheets
Diamond Teachers Group offers customized, one-on-one sessions tailored to each student’s strengths, challenges, and learning style.
Kumon primarily uses a structured worksheet system that all students follow at the same pace.
Qualified, Certified Teachers vs. Program Staff
Our tutors are certified educators with experience teaching a range of subjects and grade levels.
Kumon instructors may not all have teaching certification and primarily guide students through the program’s worksheets.
Holistic Academic Support vs. Repetition-Focused Learning
We focus on understanding concepts, critical thinking, and problem-solving, not just repetitive drills.
Kumon emphasizes repetition and incremental skill-building through worksheets.
Flexible, Student-Centered Approach
Diamond Teachers Group adapts sessions to your child’s pace, curriculum, and interests, including seasonal programs like summer tutoring and homeschooling support.
Kumon has a fixed structure and pace that may not adjust to individual learning goals.
Goal Setting & Confidence Building
Our tutors work with students on goal-setting, growth mindset, and study skills, helping them gain confidence academically and personally.
In short, Diamond Teachers Group offers personalized, teacher-led, and holistic tutoring designed to help your child truly understand concepts, build confidence, and succeed, and not just complete worksheets.

Logistics & Support
How do I communicate with tutors about my child’s progress?
Parents receive weekly updates via Google Docs using the Success Strategy. This document includes feedback and progress on the learning goals we created with you and your child. Tutors can also discuss concerns directly during sessions.
What technology do I need for online tutoring?
All sessions are held on Lessonspace. Students need a device (laptop, desktop, tablet or smartphone) with a stable internet connection, a webcam, and audio capabilities. Lessonspace allows interactive whiteboards, text, and drawing tools for an engaging online learning experience. We recommend Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox.
Optional: Drawing tools such as touch screen laptops, drawing tablet, or stylus.
Optional: Headphones or earphones with a microphone to prevent echoing and help filter outside noise. This is recommended for students who struggle with attention and/or will be joining from a space that may have some distractions.
How do you ensure my child’s safety during online sessions?
All tutors are provincially certified teachers with valid criminal record checks and are in good standing with their provincial teaching organization. They are trustworthy professionals who work with children.
Each student and tutor has a secure and unique space for their sessions together. All sessions are recorded to ensure your child’s safety and are only accessible by the Diamond Teachers Group administration. The recordings are never shared with anyone unless required by law.
How do you ensure my child stays engaged during online sessions?
Our tutors use interactive tools, games, and real-time feedback to keep your child engaged.
Sessions are tailored to your child’s pace and personal interests, which helps your child see the subject in a new way.
We offer shorter sessions for younger students or those who struggle with attention. Our sessions can be booked in 30- and 45-, or 60-minute increments.
Our tutors also create learning goals WITH your child, which outline what they will be working on together, and then track their progress and share it with your child after each session, so they can see how they’re doing.
These strategies help your child ‘buy into’ the sessions by seeing the value and purpose behind each session.
What if my child has special learning needs?
Our tutors are real teachers, many with Special Education qualifications and experience, trained to work with students with special educational needs, including those with learning disabilities, Autism, ADHD, Selective Mutism, Tourette Syndrome, and more. They can provide customized strategies to support your child's unique learning requirements and teach them how they learn best.
